Why the pay scale in Dallas is so high



While the dwindling and uncertain economy makes the employment landscape quite depressing to look at, recent comparison studies suggest that 2012 has seen a fairly satisfactory year with respect to growth in job prospects among metropolitan cities in the United States. 

Further analysis suggests that for individuals who are currently looking for jobs, the state of Texas is the place to be. This is the place to move to. With a progressive economy, the state has been able to ensure high paying jobs 

According to Forbes, the state of Texas is home to the country’s most promising mid-sized city (El Paso), and most promising metropolitan area (Austin). In addition to this, it is also home to one of the top ten cities with the highest paying scales in the nation – Dallas, ranked at number 5.  

 How Did Dallas Make it to the List? 

Consisting of a dozen of counties, the city of Dallas has come to become the economic center of North Texas. In addition to this, the fact that Dallas/Fort Worth is the third busiest airport in the world, some of the largest employers of the nation such as American Airlines, have set shop here. Another large employer that is head quartered out of this region is Walmart that offers 21,000 jobs in Dallas

In addition to high pay scales, the city of Dallas also has housing affordability rate of below 3.5. 

The Business Climate of Dallas

The City consists of a diverse industrial environment that is dominated by the technological sector. Other major industries include that of financial services, information technology and data management, defense, life sciences, telecommunications, semi conductors, transportation and processing units.

43% of the high tech jobs belong to Dallas. With about 13 privately held companies with annual revenue of over 1 billion dollars being headquartered in this region, it is no surprise that the jobs in Dallas offer the highest salary packages. 

In addition to this, the company has also been home to a range of Fortune 500 Companies such as ExxonMobil, Kimberly-Clark, Southwest Airlines and Texas Instruments. Among the world’s largest employment center’s the city has also be dubbed the ‘Silicon Prairie’.
